Made‑to‑measure flush and stormproof timber casement windows supplied UK‑wide by Barnsbury Joinery. Heritage profiles, glazing and ironmongery options, delivered nationwide.
Barnsbury Joinery makes bespoke timber casement windows to order and supplies them UK‑wide, delivered for you or your contractor to fit. Every casement is drawn to your sizes, made by hand in our London studio, and finished to conservation standards for period and listed homes. If your property is in London or the South East we can survey, restore and fit as a full service; everywhere else in the UK we supply made‑to‑measure joinery only.

Whether you are matching a run of Georgian flush casements, replacing rotten frames on a Victorian terrace, or specifying stormproof units for an exposed rural site, we cut the profiles, timber, glazing and ironmongery to suit the building rather than a catalogue. The result is a window that looks right in the reveal and performs for decades.
Flush and stormproof casements

We make two main patterns of timber casement, both to measure. Flush casement windows sit level with the frame when closed, giving the clean, traditional face found on period cottages, Georgian and early Victorian homes, and many conservation areas. They are the correct choice where planners or a listing require the sash to sit flush within the frame.
Stormproof casement windows have a stepped, overlapping edge where the opening sash laps over the frame, adding a rebate that sheds water and wind. They suit exposed, coastal and rural sites, and later twentieth‑century houses where that profile is original. We will advise on which pattern is appropriate for your building, or match an existing style exactly from your drawings or a sample.
Both patterns are made as fixed lights, side‑hung casements, top‑hung casements and combinations within a single frame, with glazing bars, mullions and transoms set out to match the original rhythm of your elevation.
Timber and ironmongery options

Casements are made from carefully selected timber chosen for the job. Engineered and slow‑grown softwoods offer stability and value for painted finishes, while European oak, Accoya and other durable hardwoods suit stained or exposed applications and longer service life. We will recommend a species based on your exposure, finish and budget, and confirm the specification before anything is cut.
Ironmongery is specified to match the period and the way you want the window to work. Casement stays, peg stays, monkey‑tail fasteners, espagnolette locking and traditional butt or friction hinges are all available, in finishes from polished and satin brass to black, chrome and antique effects. For conservation projects we can source heritage‑pattern hardware that matches surviving originals.
Windows can be supplied primed ready for on‑site decoration, or fully finished in a factory‑applied paint or stain system in the colour of your choice. Confirming the finish at order stage means the units arrive ready to install.
Glazing and weathersealing

Glazing is made up to suit the building and any planning constraints. Single glazing keeps the slimmest sightlines for the most sensitive listed work, while slimline double‑glazed units bring the thermal and acoustic benefits of modern glass within a narrow cavity that respects a heritage profile. We can incorporate crown, restoration and low‑iron glass, obscure and textured glass, and true divided or applied glazing bars where a multi‑pane appearance is needed.
Every casement is made with integral weathersealing. Compression seals set into the frame and sash close the gap around the opening light to cut draughts and rain penetration without changing the external look. Combined with the correct casement pattern for your exposure, this gives a window that is comfortable and quiet as well as authentic.
Where you need documented performance figures for building control, a warranty or a conservation officer, we will confirm the U‑values and specification for your chosen glazing at quotation.
Heritage profiles for period homes

The detail of a casement is what makes it read as original: the section of the glazing bars, the depth of the frame, the moulding on the meeting edges and the setting‑out of the lights. We draw these to match your property rather than forcing a standard profile, so replacement casements sit correctly alongside surviving original windows.
This matters most in conservation areas and on listed buildings, where planners expect like‑for‑like joinery. Send us photographs, measurements or a sample sash and we will replicate the profile, bar layout and mouldings so the new windows are difficult to tell apart from the old. As the flagship London studio of The Barnsbury Group, established in 1987, we have made heritage joinery for period and listed homes for decades.
Supply‑only process, delivery and lead times

Supply only means we make and deliver the casements and you or your contractor install them. The process starts with your sizes and specification. Working from your survey measurements, drawings or a sample, we confirm the timber, casement pattern, glazing, ironmongery and finish, then issue a quotation and cutting sheet for you to approve before manufacture begins.
Because every window is bespoke, accurate site dimensions are essential; we can provide guidance on measuring, or arrange a chargeable survey for projects within our London and South East service area. Once sizes and specification are signed off, your casements are made by hand in our London studio and prepared for despatch.
Made‑to‑measure joinery is supplied across the rest of the UK and delivered nationwide. Lead times, delivery coverage and trade terms are confirmed at quotation and depend on the size of the order, the finish and the season. Contact us with your sizes, photographs and location and we will prepare a specification and price. If your property is in London or the South East, request a survey and we can quote for the full service including installation.
