Bespoke timber doors supplied UK‑wide

Bespoke timber doors supplied UK‑wide by Barnsbury Joinery. Made‑to‑measure entrance, panelled internal and period front doors in traditional joinery.

Overview

Barnsbury Joinery makes bespoke timber doors to your exact opening and supplies them across the whole of the United Kingdom. As the flagship London studio of The Barnsbury Group, founded in 1987, we have spent decades making entrance doors, panelled internal doors and period front doors for houses, flats and commercial buildings, from Georgian and Victorian terraces to newer homes that deserve a proper timber door.

For clients in London and the South East we offer our full service, from survey and template through to fitting. Everywhere else in the UK we supply made‑to‑measure timber doors on a supply‑only basis, sending you a door built to your measurements and finished to your specification, ready for your own joiner or builder to hang. Wherever you are, the joinery, the timber and the detailing are the same as the doors we make for our London projects.

Made to measure

Made to measure to your opening

Made to measure to your opening

Every door we supply is built to the actual opening rather than trimmed down from a stock size. That matters most in older buildings, where frames are rarely square and standard doors leave uneven gaps and sticking edges. We work from your measurements, or from a template where the opening is unusual, so the finished door sits correctly in the frame with consistent margins all the way round.

You choose the overall dimensions, the thickness, the number and arrangement of panels, and the stile and rail proportions. For a supply‑only order we will guide you through taking accurate measurements and confirm the details in writing before we begin, so the door that arrives fits the opening it was made for.

Whether you need a single entrance door, a matched pair of internal doors or a full set for a whole house, each one is made individually to your requirements rather than pulled from a warehouse.

Joinery

Traditional joinery and mouldings

Traditional joinery and mouldings

Our doors are built using traditional joinery methods, with mortice and tenon frames and properly fitted panels that allow the timber to move with the seasons without splitting or dropping. This is the construction that has kept period doors serviceable for a century or more, and it is what we use on every door we supply.

Mouldings are chosen to suit the age and style of the building. We can match existing profiles on a period property so a replacement door reads as original, or work to a profile you specify for a new scheme. Bolection mouldings, ovolo and ogee sticking, raised and fielded panels and flat panels are all available, along with beading and glazing bars where a door is part glazed.

The aim is a door that looks right for its setting, whether that is a plain painted internal door, a richly detailed panelled front door or a period entrance door that suits a conservation area.

Glazing

Timber, glazing and ironmongery options

Timber, glazing and ironmongery options

We build in a range of timbers to suit the use and the budget, including engineered softwood for painted doors, European oak and other hardwoods for stained or oiled finishes, and durable species chosen for exposed external openings. We will advise on the most suitable timber for your door once we understand where it is going and how it will be finished.

Glazing options cover clear, obscure, reeded and toughened glass, along with decorative and leaded arrangements for period front doors. Doors can be supplied with single or double glazed units where insulation and comfort are a priority, or with traditional single glazing where appearance and conservation come first.

For ironmongery you can specify your own hinges, locks, letterplates, knockers and handles, or ask us to supply suitable items in a finish that suits the door. We can machine the door ready for the ironmongery you intend to use, so fitting on site is straightforward.

Conservation

Conservation suitability

Conservation suitability

Many of our door commissions are for listed buildings and properties in conservation areas, where replacement joinery has to respect the character of the original. We are used to matching historic detail, from panel layouts and moulding profiles to timber choice and finish, so a new door sits comfortably alongside surviving original work.

Where a planning or listed building consent sets out specific requirements, we can build to those conditions and provide the detail you need to satisfy your conservation officer. Group sister company Heritage Window Consultants supports the wider Barnsbury Group on heritage matters, and that experience informs the way we approach period doors.

For sensitive projects a like‑for‑like replacement made in the traditional way is usually the most acceptable route, and it is exactly the kind of work our doors are made for.

Supply

Supply‑only delivery and lead times

Supply-only delivery and lead times

Outside London and the South East we supply doors on a supply‑only basis, which means we build the door to your specification and deliver it to you ready for installation by your own joiner or builder. This gives clients anywhere in the UK access to the same joinery we produce for our London projects, without needing us on site.

Doors can be supplied primed or fully finished, or unfinished for painting or oiling on site, whichever suits your programme. We will confirm exactly what is included in your order, and what preparation is needed before the door arrives, so there are no surprises on installation day.

Lead times vary with the complexity of the door and current workload, and we will give you an indicative timescale when we quote. Delivery arrangements and carriage are confirmed at the point of order. To get started, request a survey if you are in London or the South East, or contact us with your measurements and requirements for a supply‑only door anywhere else in the UK.
